Spaghetti with Meat Sauce


  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper


  1. Cook the spaghetti according to the package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium heat until it is no longer pink, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
  3. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the saucepan and cook until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Serve the meat sauce over the cooked spaghetti, and garnish with fresh parsley or grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
